Summary

Ahead of its publication in March 2027, the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and

Cities is already helping shape urban climate conversations through early engagement

by boundary organisations such as GCoM and ICLEI, and peer organisations. This session explores how these spaces are bringing emerging insights and expert perspectives into peer exchange so that cities can already begin reflecting on what the report may mean for future policy, planning, and decision-making.

Communities of practice such as the Kaohsiung-ICLEI Climate Neutral and Smart Cities

Community of Practice, a two-year platform connecting 15 cities and regions across East Asia and the Asia-Pacific, can support collective sense-making and practical readiness. This session will bring together experts from ICLEI, GCoM, FL4ALL, the IPCC, and two city representatives to reflect on how these spaces of dialogue can help cities prepare to translate global climate science into local action once the report is released.
