Empowering cities to take action on mobility and infrastructure is at the core of the Global Research and Action Agenda (GRAA) on climate change and cities since its launch in 2018. The GRAA expects science to deliver on many crucial gaps, including climate-informed mobility planning and sustainable infrastructure transitions. While these areas present unique opportunities and challenges across different territories, achieving systemic transitions will depend on cross-cutting collaboration, research and innovation partnerships, and scalable approaches.
Integrating local perspectives and evidence with insights from global initiatives, Bayero University will build on Nigeria's current momentum in the energy transition to explore the state of play for urban transport services and infrastructure in climate-leading cities facing real-world challenges. The ultimate ambition is to present and discuss opportunities to support and inform city action plans, implementation and financing strategies, while co-generating and brokering knowledge and innovative approaches that can accelerate the speed and scale of net-zero urban development.
