Across Africa, cities are piloting and scaling new approaches to low‑carbon, people‑centered mobility. This session showcases how five countries—Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Morocco, and Malawi—are applying the UN‑developed PAAPAM framework to accelerate the uptake of walking and cycling as climate‑aligned urban solutions. Their experiences offer a diverse, practice‑driven evidence base that supports the Innovate4Cities agenda on urban climate innovation, resilience, and multilevel climate action.
The session highlights Africa’s innovation potential in climate‑aligned mobility transitions: local champions translating global frameworks into practice; governments adopting evidence‑based approaches; and communities driving implementation through creative, resilient action. These efforts show active mobility not only as a mode of transport, but as a catalyst for inclusive, low‑carbon development.
