Co-hosts: GCoM + GDI Hub
This session will focus on practical actions for policymakers and infrastructure practitioners seeking to integrate gender, disability and social inclusion considerations in climate adaptation projects across urban infrastructure. It will explore how resilient infrastructure is strengthened when it responds simultaneously to climate risks and to Gender Equality Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) dimensions of access, safety, livelihoods, and governance. It will also explore the role of finance in shaping how infrastructure addresses or exacerbates current inclusion and equity challenges, and will look at the role of financial institutions, local and national governments, infrastructure developers, and civil society in overcoming these.
The session will highlight real-world examples across diverse contexts and sectors and will draw upon key resources to support this, including:
- GCoM's ‘Gender and Inclusion Toolkit’
- ICSI’s ‘The Climate Resilient Infrastructure Report: A Focus on Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion’ and
- GCA’s upcoming guide on ‘Gender-Responsive, Socially Inclusive and Climate-Resilient Infrastructure'
