As cities experience escalating climate risks, the knowledge of 'who' is vulnerable and 'where' they are located is critical to leaving no one behind and accelerating climate action. This interactive 'Insight to Impact' session convenes experts from the GEO Human Planet Initiative, UN-Habitat Data & Analytics, and UNFPA Megatrends to demonstrate how integrating high-resolution geospatial data, Earth observation data, and dynamic demographic data accelerates equitable urban climate action.
Participants will explore how the integration of data and competences with practical tools equips city leaders with actionable intelligence, robust data and practical skills. We will showcase real-world applications, from mapping hazards, exposure and resilience (e.g. heatwave exposure in rapidly expanding informal settlements) to optimizing disaster resource allocation for vulnerable populations. By shifting the paradigm from 'pixels to people,' this session bridges the gap between complex spatial datasets and inclusive, on-the-ground urban planning. Attendees will leave with the evidence base needed to inform local policy, mobilize targeted climate finance, and build more resilient communities.
