This contribution to the 'Insight to Impact' will share lessons learned and scalable practices from urban waste management from Mumbai to Kisumu. In Mumbai, Purpose partnered with the Global Methane Hub to launch an awareness campaign in Mumbai that connects personal actions—like waste segregation—to city-wide environmental goals. In Kisumu, the work included collaboration with local government, waste workers, and community groups to launch a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), promoting a zero waste model rooted in community ownership and resilience.
This session will highlight lessons learned from establishing and sustaining community driven models, reflect on partnerships for climate action with city and local level partners and scalable tools - financial models, arts-based engagement tools - that can be used elsewhere.
