Summary

Cities face increasing climate-related hazards, and decision-makers often lack localized climate intelligence for effective risk management. To bridge this gap, the Lebanese Red Cross is creating GIS-based climate risk profiles that combine climate data, hazard mapping, and community vulnerability assessments, focusing on urban and peri-urban areas. Developed in collaboration with various partners, including the Disaster Risk Management Unit and Meteo Liban, these profiles integrate scientific insights with operational humanitarian knowledge. The initiative advances beyond mere data visualization, providing actionable intelligence for disaster risk reduction strategies. By converting climate and geospatial data into practical insights, these profiles prioritize hazards and identify vulnerable populations, which is crucial for preparedness planning and targeted interventions. Furthermore, the approach fosters cross-sector partnerships aimed at translating climate risk information into effective actions that bolster urban resilience and enable prompt responses to climate-related emergencies.
